Ashton Kutcher has joined Lenovo as a product engineer.

Ashton Kutcher has joined Lenovo as a product engineer. The announcement was made during the release of Lenovo's new Yoga tablet on Tuesday night, October 29, which was also attended by the " Two and a Half Men " actor. "It's somewhat of a dual role, Kutcher commented on his new job in a phone interview with USA Today. "Lenovo makes really, really, really good hardware. I hope to make their products as consumer friendly as possible."
Kutcher, who left for China shortly after the announcement to meet the company's executives and engineers, also talked to Wired about being an engineer. He explained, "I'm an actual product engineer, and I know that's hard for people to understand because so many of these [celebrity endorsement] relationships have been vanity products." "I actually am less interested in the color of the phone or tablet than in how it works. I hope I'll be able to bring some new ideas to tablet development. This partnership with Lenovo brings together my love of technology and design that makes your life better," he added. David Roman, chief marketing officer for Lenovo, believed that their collaboration would "break new ground by challenging assumptions, bringing new perspective and contributing his technical expertise to Yoga Tablet and other devices." He explained, "Ashton Kutcher's authentic,
creative appetite for technology and keen consumer insight combined with our innovation engine make this a very natural and powerful partnership." Financial terms of the deal were not revealed.

One on one with fashion designer, Wale Adeyemi (M.B.E) of B-Side label

He is the wunderkind of the menswear fashion scene, an exceptionally gifted Nigerian-UK-based designer with outstanding achievements. Having emerged as one of UK’s most recognised and successful fashion designers, Wale Adeyemi spoke at Oxford University on fashion, became a proud Princes Trust Ambassador, designer and stylist to international A-List stars like Alicia keys, Usher, Black Eyepeas, Estelle, Jay Sean and not to mention recipient of an MBE in 2008 for his services to fashion. Sitting with Wale felt like one of those rare opportunities I
would occasionally pray happen to me and what priviledge I had. Although he looked a bit exhausted, perhaps after a
thoroughly decadent week filled to the brim with flights and logistics for his trip to Nigeria, he still had his charming gentlemanly attributes intact. We exchanged pleasantries as we settled in comfortable breakfast chairs adjacent within his resident hotel, he smiles wearily when I ask him about his long week and plan towards his visit to Nigeria. “It’s been very interesting; there have been lots of things to consider. It’s been okay, I guess. It was just all about
work, nothing very exciting. I seem to be really swamped with work at every moment.” Wondering if he had any misconception about the idea of a
fashion show in Nigeria, he shares his believe in Nigeria saying; “I think I knew it was going to be fine, everybody around me often informed me about the improvements in
Nigeria. I’ve been told that the new Nigeria is beautiful and so I found it, the hotel I’m staying is amazing, the food is
fantastic and it’s all good. I’m very relaxed.” Part of me wants to learn more, all about Wale and the brand in one bit – the start, the now, the achievements
and next step, - for instance, how he got on the 100greatbritons list amongst other accomplishments and in one wrap it was all unveiled.

The Walé Adeyemi collection began in 1998 as a menswear line, ‘somewhere between the kerb and the boutique’ merging aesthetic and functional attributes to the garments. He was presented with the Fashion and Design Award at the Carlton Multi-Cultural Awards in 2001. Brands like Caterpillar, Nokia, Martell, Slazenger, Sky and New Era have all been clients of Walé. His expertise to produce valid collaborations to capture the imagination of his audiences has gained him credibility from top organizations who seek a route into the young British style markets; they have tapped Walé for his ingenuity and design flair to lift up their brands. Walé Adeyemi’s influence and achievements in fashion and beyond, coupled with his acclaimed design and celebrated collections have positioned him as one of the principal style leaders of our time, and made him a positive role model for all. Especially at the last Arise Fashion Week in Lagos, Nigeria where his runway of exquisite collection received massive turns of applause and report.

Burberry CEO quits to join Apple

Those who follow fashion business are well aware of the contribution of Angela Ahrendts together with young, cool chief creative director Christopher Bailey. Together they made Burberry an upmarket luxury brand . Ahrendts not only oversaw a tripling of revenues to $3 billion and a stock return of 300%, but she successfully rejuvenated the 150-year-old brand that had lost its way. She was also the highest-paid chief executive in the FTSE 100 last year with a pay package of almost £17m.

On Tuesday, Burberry announced that Ahrendts is set to exit her role as the company’s chief executive in mid-2014 to join Apple. In an unusual move, Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s chief creative officer, will replace Ahrendts, taking on the dual title of chief creative and chief executive officer. Following the announcement, Burberry shares fell by more than 6 percent in early trading on
London’s stock exchange. Ahrendts, 52, is set to become Apple’s new head of retail, a position that has remained open since the departure of John Browett, who lasted less than a year after replacing the company’s first head of retail, Ron Johnson. Ahrendts is the second senior fashion executive to be hired by Apple in recent months. In July, Paul Deneve, former chief executive of Yves Saint Laurent left the label to join Apple . Ahrendts is expected to double her income when she joins Apple.
In my opinion, Cook and his team are trying to keep Apple fresh and upmarket as Burberry, which is renowned for its
astute social media and web presence. It makes perfect sense for Apple to have business minds that doesn’t think like an electronics retailer. When Steve jobs developed the Apple store, he thought outside the box. They must keep evolving that experience or it will get stale. I also believe it’s a very smart move to hire someone who understands the buying mindset of women. Attracting
women in my mind is a high priority for any company. About 85% of consumer purchases are directly made or influenced by women. So, it only makes sense to hire someone who cognises the female market. Apple’s transition to a luxury lifestyle brand means shoppers now expect more than best design and technology. With increasing competition from other Android and tablet makers, Apple has to be high-end. This is luxury business- it calls for a different mindset.

Mr. Bailey becomes the first designer not to start his own house to ascend to the top executive role. Under Bailey's
creative leadership the brand created an image of not edgy fashion with a highly accessible vision of Britishness. Sales in China and other Asia Pacific markets are the core of Burberry's revenues (up 17 per cent in the last six months to £694 million). Indeed, fashion was largely built on the idea that corporate and creative sides should be separate but hand in hand. The design types should not have worry about revenue, while moneymen should not have to bother listening to
rhapsodies about colour inspiration. Although Ahrendts has been sure to introduce him to numbers, analysis,
share prices and investors in the last few years, as part of his grooming process. It remains to be seen whether he will have the executive mettle to guide Burberry through its next chapter.

The New Bentley Handbags: Car Makers Bentley debuts female Handbags

Yes, you read it correct; it’s actually a Bentley handbag! If Mercedes-Benz can make men’s cologne then why can’t Bentley make handbags? This is the first venture of the luxury automobile maker
into the luxury accessories arena. Interestingly other auto manufacturers who have taken this path in the past have chosen men’s accessory products but Bentley is aiming to capture women’s interest. Designed by Bentley’s head of product design, Daniele Ceccomori and former Louis Vuitton and Loewe designer, Vincent du Sartel. The initial collection constitutes of two styles and matches colors of Bentley’s cars — Fireglow Red, Linen, Neptune
Blue, and Imperial Blue. Appropriately, one of the models is named for Diana Barnato-Walker, a Bentley customer
and aviator who was the first woman to break the sound barrier. The other is named Continental, after a Bentley
model. Priced between USD 5,500–USD7000. Thats almost 1Million Naira

The Pablo Escobar Theory: Rubber bands roll the market :-)

In most businesses, seeing a return on investment (ROI) of 100% would be more than enough for a company to thrive. By some estimates, notorious Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar enjoyed an ROI of as much as 20,000%. Put another way, for every $1 he put into his
business, he got about $200 in return.

1. Rats ate $1 billion of Pablo Escobar's profits each year

The first thing you didn't know about Pablo Escobar testifies to an uncommon, staggering degree of wealth. According to Roberto Escobar, one of Pablo's closest brothers, at a time when their estimated profits were
circling $20 billion annually "Pablo was earning so much that each year we would write off 10% of the money because the rats would eat it in storage or it would be damaged by water or lost." If that weren't enough to drop your jaw, Roberto adds that the cartel spent as much as $2,500 every month on rubber bands to "hold the money together."

2. Pablo Escobar was suspected of bombing the World Trade Center

Another thing you didn't know about Pablo Escobar is that he was named as an early suspect in the 1993 bombing of
the World Trade Center. Shortly after the bombing, which killed six and injured over 1,000, a New York City prosecutor publicly suggested that the bombing could have been carried out by any "enemy of the U.S.," including Escobar's Medellin cartel. Well, Pablo may have assassinated a presidential candidate (Luis Carlos Galán), threatened to kill the
offspring of a sitting U.S. president (allegedly one of Bush Sr.'s sons), blown a commercial jet out of the sky (Avianca Flight 203), and orchestrated the attempted slaughter of the Colombian Supreme Court (Palace of Justice siege), but bomb the World Trade Center? Escobar was sufficiently offended enough so that he sent a handwritten note to the U.S. Ambassador to Colombia declaring his innocence. "You can take me off the list," he assured Ambassador Morris Busby, "because if I had done it I would be saying why I did it and what I want."

3. Pablo Escobar bought a Learjet to fly his cash

The last thing you didn't know about Pablo Escobar is that he had an interesting solution to a very rare kind of cash flow problem. Escobar and his cartel began to see soaring profits rather quickly. His being a cash business, Escobar needed to get that U.S. cash back to Colombia. For a while, the small plane he used to transport that cash was sufficient, as it could hold about $10 million. Keeping in mind Escobar's estimated ROI of 20,000%, and that he was getting cocaine to the U.S. by a wide variety of methods (including a pair of submarines which would each carry about 1,000 kilos), it's no surprise that he needed an upgrade. Escobar thus bought a Learjet, a substantially faster plane and one that could carry as much as 10 times the amount of cash. Problem solved.

In 1982 Escobar was elected as a deputy/alternative representative to the House of Representatives of Colombia's Congress, as part of the Colombian Liberal Party .[12] He was the official representative of the Colombian government in the swearing of Felipe González in Spain.

He was killed while trying to evade arrest in Colombia on December 2, 1993 and thus end the rule of a Tyrant.

The rise of Birdman (Ronald Williams) and Cash Money Records

The famous popular saying by Jonnie Walker "the journey of a thousand years begins with a step" is clearly true and Birdman can attest to this fact.On a
hot summer day in 1991, two brothers named Bryan and Ronald Williams launched a rap label called Cash Money Records . They hoped Cash Money would some day pull them out of one of New Orlean’s most wretchedly poor housing projects. Neither of them had
any experience running a record label, or even working in the music industry.
They didn’t own a recording studio and they didn’t have any artists on their roster. But what they did have was a dream and the willingness to do whatever it took to be successful. The Williams brothers also may have had around $100 thousand dollars in cash at their disposal, that may have allegedly been provided by their drug kingpin half-brother Terrence. Allegedly. But that’s besides the point. Fast forward 22 years and today Cash Money Records is one of the most successful and prolific record labels in the music industry. And its two founders Bryan “Birdman” Williams and older brother Ronald “Slim”
Williams are two of the richest and most
powerful people not just in hip-hop, but in all of entertainment. How did two guys from the projects, with nothing but a dream pull this off? Their story is pretty incredible…How Did Birdman Become So Rich Cash Money Records Is Born
When the Williams brothers founded Cash Money Records in 1991, the underground hip-hop scene in New Orleans was just starting to catch fire. A trend called “bounce music” was exploding all over Louisiana thanks to artists like DJ Irv and TT Tucker. The opportunity for a couple of ambitious
entrepreneurs was ripe. To launch Cash Money Records (CMR), the Williams brothers first reached out to their father, who owned a popular local bar nightclub. Unfortunately, a few thousand dollars from their dad didn’t provide nearly enough for Cash Money to get off the ground. The real money that launched CMR came from their half brother Terrence Williams who was the founder of a notorious drug crew called
the Hot Boys (not to be confused with the Cash Money rap group of the same name that came years later). Ronald and Bryan chose the name “Cash Money
Records” as a reference to the recently released film “New Jack City”, in which Wesley Snipes played a wealthy New York City gangster who runs a crew called the “Cash Money Brothers”. With their start up capital secured, the Williams brothers began signing local talent. Their first roster artist was a 16 year old kid named Kilo-G. Pretty soon
they had around a dozen artists most notably Lil Slim, Mr. Ivan, PxMxWx and U.N.L.V. In those early days, the Williams brothers organized local shows then sold their artist’s records right from the trunk of their car! One of the most fundamental events in the history of CMR happened in 1993 when the label signed a talented DJ/producer named Mannie Fresh. Before Mannie Fresh came along, Cash Money’s lyrics and
sound were very raw and gangster rap influenced. On the other end of the spectrum, Manny Fresh had just
spent more than a decade mixing and producing pop influenced house music beats for DJs in New York City. The combination of Manny’s more consumer-friendly beats, with Cash Money’s gangster image and lyrics,
quickly came to be known as “Gansta Bounce”. Gansta Bounce instantly struck a nerve with hip-hop fans throughout Louisiana. Major Labels Come Calling Through sheer hustle and talent, Cash Money records signed dozens more artists between 1994 and 1997. Even more impressively, their albums were selling between 25,000 and 50,000 copies without a distribution or promotional deal from any major label. U.N.L.V.’s second album sold 60,000 copies. The Hot Boy$’ debut album sold an astonishing 300,000 copies in its first few months alone, almost exclusively in the greater New Orleans area. The Hot Boy$, who were
barely old enough to drive, featured the rappers Juvenile, B.G., Turk and a 15 year old who went by the name Lil Wayne . At the beginning 1998, every major record label they  world made the trek from New York City to New Orleans seeking out the infamous Williams brothers. Even if Cash Money had sold a few hundred thousand albums independently, most labels sought to sign them to a standard rookie deal. That deal typically involved a small cash advance, plus a 50/50 split of all profits
earned on albums sales. Also, the record label would maintain ownership of any current and future master copies of albums and publishing rights.
You can imagine the shock each major label executive felt when they heard what the Williams brothers were demanding. Birdman and Slim wanted an 80/20 pressing and distribution deal, plus a multi-million dollar cash advance. This was nothing short of unprecedented for an unsigned indie label. A pressing & distribution deal meant that Cash Money would continue finance their own albums and therefore
maintain ownership of all their masters, royalties and publishing. Essentially they were looking for a company that would finance their entire label with millions of dollars, in exchange for a measly 20% cut of the profits made only when a consumer physically purchased an album. To say this was unheard of, is a massive understatement. As Russel Simmons explained at the time, this was the kind of deal an artist like Madonna or Michael Jackson is lucky to get after a
decade being on top of the charts.

Cash Money Cashes In

Amazingly, despite their insane demands, two labels were still interested, Sony and Universal. Both companies knew they wouldn’t ever make much money off the deal, but Cash Money represented something far more important: Market share . Making a deal with Cash Money would give the winning record company an instant foothold in the rising southern hip-
hop market. It would allow them to court future artists and sell their current roster to people they had never successfully reached before. With that prize up for
grabs, Sony and Universal made their pitches. In the end, Universal’s offer was just far too much for Sony to match. Not only did Universal bow to every single
demand made by the Williams brothers, they arranged for Cash Money to immediately receive a $3 million cash advance plus $1.5 million for every album they produced each year. In total the deal was worth a mind boggling $30 million . The magnitude of this deal’s uniqueness can not be understated. Imagine if after selling few hundred
thousand copies of an ebook on my own, a publishing company agreed to pay me millions of dollars for 20% of my profits. Then also imagine that the publishing company agreed to book my on every major talk show and get me prominent display in every bookstore around the world, at their expense. Wouldn’t happen. A publishing company is more likely to pay me $50,000 and take 80% of my profits. Plus they would own all my intellectual property and sequel rights… This pressure was definitely on for Birdman and Cash Money to deliver. Fortunately one their first releases was a massive hit Juvenile’s 1998 solo debut “400 Degreez” sold 4 million copies right out of the gate thanks to the hit single “Back That Azz Up”, and set Cash Money on the world map. From then on the Cash
Money team became a hit making machine. Between 2001 and 2003 alone, CMR sold over 10 million albums worldwide thanks to artists like Big Tymers (which featured Birdman himself), B.G. Lil Wayne, Hot Boy$ and more.

Billion Dollar Brand

Cash Money Records is arguably the only major label in the world that has stayed relevant continuously for the
last 20 years straight. There have been a few minor weak periods, but overall CMR has been able to sell millions of records every year since the launch of their
incredible deal with Universal. Recently, Cash Money has even begun to aggressively diversify its artist roster
in to non-rap areas of music. They won a bidding war to represent Canadian super star Drake, they signed Kevid Rudolph, Nicki Minaj, Busta Rhymes,Limp Bizkit, Jay Sean and even Paris Hilton. Birdman has stated publicly that Cash Money’s ultimate goal is to release
100 albums a year from artists in every single genre of music. Even more amazingly, Birdman believes Cash Money Records is on pace to become the first billion dollar music brand of all time, within the next five years. In total, artists from Cash Money Records have
sold over 150 million albums worldwide to date. Thanks to the phenomenal success of Cash Money Records, today Birdman is sitting on an extremely impressive $170 million net worth . He drives a $5 million Bugatti and is rarely seen without wearing at least $10 million worth of jewelry. He lives in a stunning $14.5 million mansion on Miami’s exclusive Star Island. As for Ronald “Slim” Williams, he recently spent $7.5 million purchase the largest house in South Florida. And the best part? He paid cash. As we all know, Lil Wayne is one of the most successful and active artists in the world today. Wayne’s net worth recently topped $130 million.

So what’s the lesson here? If you have a dream, work hard and take a chance… you might make a ton of cash money some day!

Sterling Bank begins sensitizing the Muslim community on Non-Interest Banking.

Sterling Bank Plc has begun sensitising the Muslim community on the need to embrace non-interest banking. Group Head, Non-Interest Banking, Sterling Banking Plc, Basheer Oshodi, said in a statement that there was need to let Nigerians know about opportunities the segment of the market presents. Oshodi, who spoke in Lagos at the weekend during a non- interest banking workshop organised by the bank according to the statement, said the lender was committed to introducing the banking concept to everyone. He disclosed that the bank recently got the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s approval-in-principle to practice non- interest banking in the country. “What we are trying to do here today, is to introduce non-interest banking to everyone. We have gotten approval-in- principle from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). What we are doing now is to get people to be aware of what non-
interest banking is all about. We are trying to showcase the type of products we are going to come out with. Those
products cover both risk assets and liabilities,” he said. Oshodi explained that since the lender was yet to get a
final licence, the best it could do was to educate and sensitise the market on the need to embrace the concept. “Basically, because we do not yet have a final licence, we cannot go all out yet. But we can start sensitising the market, pending when we get the final licence from the CBN,” he said. He said findings showed that a lot of people, including the non- Muslims were very happy with the concept, and were interested in taking the investment option that it
presents. According to him, research showed that 30.5 million adult
Nigerians were willing to buy into non-interest banking products. Also, over 60 per cent of Nigeria’s adult population remained unbanked. Both scenarios, he said, were indications that the non-interest banking concept cannot fail in the country. Oshodi said the bank would not only be focusing on the 30.5 percent interested adults, but would also target the over 60 per cent unbanked population, when it finally begins operation. He explained that the CBN gives national banks window to offer Islamic banking products, using existing structure such as the branches, staff among others to drive the process.
He said aside getting a separate licence for non-interest banking Sterling Bank would also acquire a different information technology (IT) base, and segregate the customers’ accounts from those that are into regular banking.
“We need a different IT because there has to be account separation, so that if there is a non-interest banking customer that walks in, the cashier should be able to segregate the account.

There must be account separation,
and that’s what makes it different,” he said. He said the bank will be going into partnership transactions with its customers and also offering leasing
and other financial services. “If a customer wants to buy a car, we can buy it for him. In another case, we can buy the car, and lease it to the customer. Alternatively, if a customer wants to build a house for commercial rentage,
and he has land, but needs money, the bank can partner with such customer. The bank will bring in the money, and
at the end of the day, they can sell and share the profit,” he explained.
He said non-interest banks do not pay interest on deposits, but relies more on partnership and profit sharing, usually in a ratio of 70:30. The customer he said takes 70 per cent, while the bank takes 30 per cent from the profit, and also gives a portion to depositors. Oshodi further explained that there is always profit to be shared by all the parties because a non-interest bank creates a profit declaration reserve where a portion of its profit is kept. Such reserve is then shared at a time when there is no profit. “That makes it possible for the bank to ensure that at all times, the customer gets something good,” he said. Chairman, Advisory Committee of Experts on Non-Interest Banking, Sterling Bank Plc, Sheik Abdulkader Thomas said Nigeria is a huge market for non-interest banking given its huge population base. He said the banking concept is a viable means of gathering huge deposits that banks can even use in financing infrastructure and other
developmental projects. Thomas, who is an American, living in Kuwait, said
although Nigeria’s infrastructure is seen as weakness but deposits from non-interest banking can be used to fix it.
Chief Imam, Lekki Muslim Ummah, Imam Abdur-Raheem Ahmad Sayi, who spoke on “Prohibition of Riba” (Interest),
advised participants to key into the non interest banking concept because it presents huge opportunities for their
economic growth. He advised them to cultivate the habit of savings, and also identify with institutions that offer non-
interest banking products. Sayi said that a bank or any other financial institution is not expected to take advantage of the borrower but advised against loan default. He said Muslims should abide by the terms of agreement they enter with such institutions.

Nigerian DJ arrested with 52 wraps of Cocaine

Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos,
arrested a 36-year-old Disc Jockey carrying 855 grammes of cocaine.
In a statement on Tuesday by the NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, the suspect, Iwunze Magnus, with a South African passport number 460709224, was said to have boarded an Iberia flight from Costa Rica
enroute Madrid. According to the statement by the NDLEA Head of Public
Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, DJ Iwunze Magnus was found to have ingested 52 wraps of cocaine as he arrived, three of these wraps were excreted by him during the flight. Magnus, who owns a music studio in Johannesburg, where he has lived with his wife and child since 1997, explained his acts as follows:
“I had wanted to settle the debts I incurred during the burial of my late brother. In an attempt to pay the balance
of N300,000, I fell into the hands of drug traffickers who lured me into the trade.
They were to pay me $2,500, if I had succeeded,”the suspected man is a native of Ibitolu, Imo State. Thorough investigation of the case has been ordered.

Landrover (Makers of Range Rover) rolls out new SUVs with more legroom and improved aesthetics.

Land Rover executives will ride into Los Angeles next month in a pair of new Range Rovers. One of those offerings will accommodate execs with legs that are longer than most, and the second will cater to those with wallets that are fatter than most. You see, at the L.A. auto show, the world will get its first up-close look at Land Rover’s long-wheelbase Range Rover and Range Rover Autobiography Black models.
The first, and arguably the most welcome addition to the Range lineup, is the long-wheelbase version, which tugs
the rear wheels aft nearly eight inches to increase rear-seat legroom by 5.5 inches. Those who opt for this option will have the choice of a bench seat for a trio of passengers or a pair of bucket seats split by a center console. Take the latter layout and the seats can recline
up to 17 degrees, which is eight degrees more lying back than is available in the standard-wheelbase Range Rover Included in the long-wheelbase package is a panoramic sunroof and standard power door blinds, which will surely frustrate those pesky paparazzi.
Range Rover already tops its model lineup with the $136,345 Autobiography edition, which matches Jaguar Land Rover’s 510-hp, 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 with a barrage of the finer things. That model will be improved upon by the Autobiography Black, which will come to
America exclusively in long-wheelbase guise. The objective, of course, is to coddle rear passengers in a manner that would have tempted Cinderella from her
pumpkin carriage—you know, when it was a glamorous lift to the ball; not when it turned back into a pumpkin. The Autobiography Black comes from Land Rover’s Engineered To Order department and just 100 will be doled out across our large land during 2014. Somewhat ironically, the first 25 Blacks will be white, specifically Valloire White pearlescent. The grille and side vents get a unique finish, while the badging and brightwork will be finished in black enamel. Further setting the Autobiography Black apart from more-pedestrian Range Rovers is chrome detailing on the tailgate, what Land
Rover calls “signature” taillights, and bespoke high-gloss 21-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, Range Rover begins with a bespoke seat-cover design for the leather chairs. In the front, those seats offer massaging functionality and the driver’s seat features 18- way articulation. The rear set adds reclining ability, lumbar massage, and a power recline setting. In the seatbacks of
both front seats are 10.2-inch infotainment screens that can display navigation or whatever it is that the filthy rich watch for entertainment.
Between the seats is a center console that has controls for seat heating, climate controls, and a chiller with room for “glasses and bottles”—definitely not champagne. Our favorite additions are the tables that can be electronically
deployed and have leather surfaces, holsters for those aforementioned glasses, or, for the always-working executive, a USB charging point.

I have always been a fan of what the teacher and lecturer cannot teach '@omojuwa': twitter King speaks

Twitter personality and political blogger, Japheth Omojuwa, in this interview tells
how he succeeded in monetising his handle, @omojuwa Many people know you as a prominent person on the Nigerian Twitter space. What do you really do for a living? I have monetised social media. I have also featured on speaking platforms across five continents over the last 12 months and this has been rewarding. I consult for a
couple of civil society organisations – including the West African Civil Society Organisation in Ghana and the German Heinrich Boell Foundation.

You are also known to be a political blogger. Was it by
accident?

I blog about many things but the political side of me came to the fore during the OccupyNigeria movement. Nothing led me into the foray of political blogging. What leads Nigerians into talking about Nigeria and its politics? The difference in the reason is not in what leads us into talking about our country but the platform we choose to make our voices heard. I am not angrier, not more intelligent nor more passionate than the average Nigerian. I may be privileged to have popular platforms for which to be heard more than the average person.

When did you sign up for Twitter and how did you come about growing a huge following on the social network?

February 2009. I joined under a different name but I started my current handle @omojuwa February of 2009. It has been organic. I started like everyone else. I had moments where I was the focus of Twitter’s attention like most people but unlike most people I have been consistent. I have also been at the right place at the right time with certain events too.

What handle were you using before @omojuwa and is it still functional?

It is @alphareach. Still functional but I’m not tweeting from it anymore. I can’t remember when I created it. What tweet brought you into limelight on the Nigerian Twitter space? I don’t know. It is easy to forget a popular tweet and the
popularity of the person who tweets it eventually fades in a day or two. Twitter is not about that one powerful tweet,
it’s about a consistent pull of several powerful, witty wits.

In the “outside world” no one is renowned for being a one-off, you are renowned for being consistent with excellence. It is the same with Twitter. What strategies have you devised to drive discussions around issues on Twitter? No special strategies. Being myself works for me. Being myself is enough. I say what I want to say, how I want to say it and how I choose to say it. In a place where following the crowd is the norm, those who choose to do
things their way will definitely find people following them. I care about people. I want them to be aware, I want them to know, I want them to be better and I want them to want to wake up, looking forward to possibilities beyond the usual and the boring. An individual does not need the so- called strategies to stand out on social media but organisations certainly do. “Social” must be at the core for organisations.

Is it possible for one to generate/make money through one’s Twitter handle?

It is possible but your loyalty and allegiance must always be to your followers. The how is in the art of brand
communications. People don’t want to be sold to but they want to buy. Subtlety is the way! You can adopt brands and simply become their social media ambassador. You can share information about events and products. Mind that numbers are everything and you must have a sizable number of followers for anyone to bank his/her money on you to reach consumers.

Have you been making money through your Twitter handle?

I make money from my Twitter account. My football tweets have been branded since January 2013. I don’t tweet football just for fun anymore, I earn real cash for sending my virtual football opinions. I also share my experience about my favourite brands. Where the said brand wants my shared experience sustained, we then begin to talk about what’s in it for the trinity; the brand, my
followers and myself. As long as we get something in it for my followers then we will be very close to doing business.
Where my followers have nothing to gain, no business. How much do you charge per tweet? How much I charge per tweet is not something I want to
put a figure to in a public place. I charge enough to make many brands look another way. Twitter makes money for
having us on its platform. We spend a lot of time on these platforms. Millions of people are on these platforms. It is
an opportunity to create value for even more people outside our physical sphere of influence.Money is one of the reactions of an action called value creation.

How many brands are you an ambassador for on
Twitter? Two permanent ones at the moment. Others are period specific. What are the names of these brands?
It is in my best interest not to share.
How has your foray into political blogging and your Twitter profile opened doors for you? My social media profile has opened more than doors. It has opened cities, countries and continents. I am beyond political blogging. I am Omojuwa, a total package. There are people who follow me for reasons that are outside of the politics I talk about. There are people who follow me
just because I am just as ordinary as they are. They follow me because they now know that being ordinary is not the
same thing as being limited. I am ordinary but that I can do extraordinary things means that I can also inspire
ordinary people like myself to aspire, be better, go upward, forward and conquer the world. I am a just another Nigerian who cares about the country,
who thinks about the continent and who thinks that within each African country lies a little seed that when planted in
belief, competence and passion and watered with synergy, can make change happen.

How was your background like?

I was at King’s College, Lagos. I studied Agricultural Economics at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, I did a bit of Brand Communications at Orange Academy, Lagos. Now I have been attending policy and governance sessions across
the continents. I have always been about understanding phenomena and the world around me. I have always been
a fan of what the teacher and lecturer cannot teach. I have always been in search of the esoteric. I was born and bred in Lagos, now I enjoy seeing the world one city at a time.

Gucci history, some interesting facts and my inordinate obsession with the brand

My first experience with Gucci was few years back, when I decided to buy something, being particularly enamored by the brand’s signature motif. In India, either people are completely aware of such high-end brands or they have got no idea, making them think why these products are of such insane price? And when outlets of such luxury brands open-up, the sales assistant usually expect people from elite class to walk in. When I stepped into the store, I tried catching the sales guy’s attention by drifting past him numerous times. Although he tried hard not to notice me, finally he had to show me a few of small leather items quite reluctantly.

I could only buy a leather cardholder, the only thing I could afford at the time. My inordinate passion with this brand has since then solidified mostly because of this fashion house’s legacy and aesthetic. Such is the power of this brand that American rapper 2 Chainz had once said, “When I die, burry me inside the Gucci store.” Such is the mania of this brand across the globe! This edition is all about Gucci history with some interesting facts. Read on!
Whenever Italy is mentioned, some think about magnificent citadels, chateau, red wine and food. There are also some people, who instantly relate this country to fashion, leather and of course Gucci….

Guccio Gucci, the foudner of this luxury brand had spent many years working in London’s Savoy Hotel. He worked as an elevator attendant in this hotel; the job which was the real inspiration behind his brand. Being an elevator attendant in one of the most lavish hotels in Europe, he came in contact with A-listers like Marilyn Monroe, Winston Churchill, Frank Sinatra and Claude Monet. This inspired by him to open his own high-
end leather luggage and this is how he launched his brand in 1921.

He went back to Italy and within a few years the label was enjoying growing
success, the cosmopolitan international elite holidaying in Florence converged on Gucci’s bottega on a quest for his Gucci shoes, bags, trunks, gloves and belts.

ASUU and FG holds secret meetings!!!!!!!!!!!!

Supervising Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday met with the Academic Staff Union of Universities
in Abuja. It could not be ascertained if the meeting which lasted barely one hour produced desirable results. The ASUU President, Dr. Nasir Fagge and the minister refused to speak with journalists after the meeting. Fagge did not respond to questions on the outcome of the meeting and the next line of action of the union. He simply told one of our correspondents that, “I am not in a position to talk.” At the meeting were the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie; the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Isaac Adewole and a few national officers of the union. Also, Vice-President Namadi Sambo on Tuesday met briefly with stakeholders in the nation’s education sector. The stakeholders were led to the meeting which was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja by Wike. Other members of the delegation included Okojie and Adewole. At the end of the brief session, none of the participants
agreed to speak with journalists when approached. Other members of the team who came out of the venue of the meeting a few minutes before Wike came out had claimed that the minister would address journalists. But Wike refused to answer questions when he emerged from the Vice President’s office. He joined other members of the team in a brief consultation at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa before
he hurriedly jumped into his waiting car.
No official statement was also issued by the Vice President’s office on the meeting. Meanwhile, the Pan-Yoruba Socio-Cultural group, the Afenifere has appealed to both the Federal Government and the striking members of ASUU to shift grounds in the interest of the future of the students and education sector in general. This was contained in a communique issued by the group and read to journalists by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, after the meeting of the group, on Tuesday in Akure. It expressed worries that both parties had failed to
shift grounds on the industrial action which had been on since July 1. The meeting, which was held at the residence of the Afenifere Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure, also noted that the development was not healthy for the nation’s educational sector.

In a related development, the National Association of Kwara State Students has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to take a pivotal role by personally being involved in the negotiation to resolve the strike.
In a statement signed by its President, Ajadi Muhideen and Public Relations Officer, Sulyman Alimi, on Tuesday in
Ilorin, NAKSS said such act by Jonathan would further show his commitment to education growth and advancement.
It hoped that the direct involvement of Jonathan in the negotiation would enhance the quicker resolution of the crisis.

According to the association, Nigerian students are tired of suffering inadequate provision of infrastructure as well as lack of motivation for their lecturers and insufficient funding. It stated that there was inadequate lecture rooms in many tertiary institutions, adding that under-furnished lecture halls, poorly equipped or lack of laboratories were some of the challenges facing the nation’s institutions. NAKSS urged other labour unions in the country to embark on solidarity strike. It said, “The Nigerian students are intellectuals and can see where the wrong is coming from. We do not need anybody to sponsor us, the ills are there for all to see.

“It does not go with reason why any Nigerian student will say a demand for 26 per cent budgetary allocation or the
duly earned allowances of university lecturers being requested for is unrealistic.”

#JordanCircuitVerdict: I think both ASUU and the federal government are theives.

Why Time Travel, Wormholes, Parallel Universes & Alternate Dimensions Just Makes Everything Cooler

Where would Star Trek and J.J. Abrams be without time travel and alternate dimensions? How could Spock have a conversation with Spock— an epic meeting that revealed so muchabout two versions of the same man living in different realities ? How could J.J literally rewrite the Trek universe, tell his own story, and get away with it, without time travel? Within parallel universes, the rules change. Characters you know well and love can completely transform, giving the reader or viewer a fresh new take such as was seen in the classic
Star Trek episode called Mirror, Mirror. In the D.C. comics Bizzaro World, Superman is evil, Lex Luthor is a hero, and Batman has a futility belt. Get it? Futility? Alternate dimensions come in many forms. You can create a world between worlds like the one found in Alice In Wonderland or the land of Oz There are a variety of ways to get there as well. You can travel through a crack at the bottom of the ocean like in Pacific Rim, or you can journey through the Bermuda triangle, or step through a wardrobe and into Narnia. Alternate realities were explored in It’s a Wonderful Life . George Bailey got to see what the town and his family would be without him. Scrooge got a glimpse of a potential future he didn’t much care for and was able to change the outcome by changing himself. Wormholes are used in Phillip Pullman’s, His Dark Materials, Madeleine L’Engle’s, A Wrinkle in Time , Carl Sagan’s, Contact , in Star Trek , and there was even an entire television series dedicated to wormholes called Sliders . The many Stargate shows were also based on wormholes. Ah, and let’s not forget that Thor travels through them as well. In a case like that, I wouldn’t mind a wormhole being connected to my back yard. Actually, now that I think on it, I’d sacrifice even my kitchen for Chris Hemsworth Perhaps I could entice him away from Natalie Portman with one of my seven layered cookie bars. (Making note to buy ingredients) Now time travel opens up all kinds of story options. In Back to the Future, any little thing done in the past can change future relationships, affect character, and change the world. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry and Hermione travel back in time to be able to hear or accomplish certain things they wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise and the bonus is that we get to see them see themselves. These various plot devices give new insights to character, open up worlds beyond the everyday, and enrich a story. This doesn’t mean it’s easy to do by any means. There’s sciency stuff involved, rules to be created and maintained, and an army of geeky science nerds who lie in wait ready to pierce your carefully constructed world through the heart with aforementioned sciency foam arrows. But, if it’s done right, then not only do endless story possibilities await but your readers will turn the last page and shout “My…mind…is…blown!”

Sterling Bank moves to boost job creation in Nigeria

Sterling Bank has said it will continue to support initiatives aimed at creating jobs and providing entrepreneurial opportunities for the Nigerian youth. As a result, the bank said it organised the ‘Get Ready for Work’ concert, which attracted a number of fresh graduates, undergraduates, National Youth Service Corps members, and job applicants across the state. The concert, themed ‘Set off your career in style,’ was aimed at providing entrepreneurial opportunities for the Nigerian youth as well as preparing the participants for self-employment. According to a statement from the bank, invited speakers delivered speeches geared towards getting the participants to think beyond the structured environment for employment. It listed some of the speakers as the Co-founder, Jobberman Mr. Olalekan Olude; the Executive Director, JUMIA, Mr. Gbolahan Fagbure and Chief Executive Officer, Frontiers Consulting, Mr. Muyiwa Afolabi. The statement quoted the Group Head Strategy and Communications, Sterling Bank, Mr. Shina Atilola, as noting that the high rate of unemployment was the primary reason for the concert. He said, “We realise that 23 per cent of Nigerians are unemployed and we asked ourselves how we can help. While Sterling Bank cannot absorb everyone here today, we have taken your CVs and will look at them and those that we consider employable, we will definitely employ “But some of you are not employable and some don’t even want to work in a structured environment. They want to be
on their own. “We have partnered with people we know have done it on their own and have succeeded. We believe these successful individuals will add colour to achieving your dreams.”According to the statement, discussions were led by Olude, who told the inspiring story of how he and two other friends laid the foundation for the successful company, Jobberman, some four years ago while still in school. “We were in school. It was during an industrial strike just like this. We decided to maximise the strike Facebook had just come out then. We decided to do something online. We selected between movies, music and jobs but we settled for jobs,” he was quoted as saying. The entrepreneur challenged the participants to become
job creators. “What if there are no jobs? What I have realised is that what it takes to get a job is what it takes to set up a successful company; what you need is to have a dream; be yourself and learn to execute every of your plans,” he said.
The statement quoted JUMIA CEO as saying the watchword for success was discipline in both personal and business life. “Always be prepared to make that sacrifice to achieve your goals,” he emphasised. Muyiwa Afolabi, a passionate public speaker, underlined
the importance of facts in progressing in life, saying, “Facts are important in progressing in life but you must have your facts right,” he said. One of the outstanding facts, which would resonate with participants at the event, according to Afolabi, was the fact that education and career are not pre-requisites for wealth.

What do you know about the Blue plaques all over England?

A blue plaque is a permanent sign installed in a public place in the United Kingdom and elsewhere to commemorate a link between that location and a famous person or event, serving as a historical marker. The world's first blue plaques were erected in London in the 19th century to mark the homes and workplaces of famous people. This original scheme across the United Kingdom was administered by English Heritage from 1986, but was temporarily closed to new suggestions in 2013 owing to a lack of funding.

The London-wide blue plaques scheme has been running for over 140 years, and now comprises around 850 plaques.

I believe the blue plaques inspired the Hollywood walk of fame and other similar heroic acknowledgements.
